Junior Cycle Business Studies
In business, you will learn many life skills such as managing money, opening bank accounts, and how to set up and run your own business.
Field Trip: Butlers Chocolate Factory March 2024
The course is split into 3 parts:
- Personal Finance- Examining us as consumers and households, our needs, looking after our finances, budgeting, saving, insurance, making key decisions
- Enterprise- Examining a business, how they are set up to be successful, their needs, Marketing, Company Accounts, Ownership Structures etc..
- Economics- Examining our economy, the local, national, and international economy, how it is run in Ireland, trade between countries, taxes etc..

- Income and Expenditure
- Budgeting and Managing Money
- Insurance
- Your Consumer Rights
- Saving, Investing, and Borrowing
- Setting up a business
- Marketing
- Ireland, the EU, and Brexit
There is no practical exam in Business, but there is a group Classroom Based Assessment in 2nd Year and an individual 10% Classroom Based Assessment in 3rd Year.
Please note that a calculator is used in some of the topics and you will be expected to add, subtract, and do percentages.
